Interesting, but is our form really the most efficient for our terrain? Perhaps you mean urban areas that have been designed for humans, not terrain. Cool. I get you
there is also the chance that our design just happens to be the best possible design for intelligent, planet dominating life and that throughout the universe 'Humanoid' is prevalent. I don't mean human, but just the basics - Head(s) Visual/hearing etc appendage at the top, main world accessing/manipulating limbs underneath, movement appendages at the bottom. Perhaps throughout all space and time every intelligent species developed something similar to our hands, as its the best possible design for the intricate manipulation of the outside world necessary to climb to the top of the pile of life. Maybe we ourselves are Alien in origin, our planet the interstellar equivalent of Australia, a land as far distant as it is possible to get, light years from anywhere, where we, the unwanted and violent dregs of society, were shipped and abandoned to regress into savagery and build ourselves back up to civilisation, but never managing to overcome the violent tendencies that had us shipped here in the first place - in which case, aliens will look exactly like us. Then again, maybe not. There are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of in my philosophy.

Thanks!
